Been back for over an hour or so, needed to get some food in First of all, thanks to Jason for putting us up (again) and getting this sorted, hospitality second to none. Also thanks to my teammates who managed to put up with a slow fat Scotsman (not DC either) and we put up a good show despite our problems.....and it wasn't just the fat Scotsman either. The race was good, Franky and myself had a great battle in the first race swapping place positions lap after lap. It was so much fun it was a shame to see his number get called in for him to pit. There were some moments when some of the racing was a bit susceptible but I suppose with 37 drivers there was always going to be some issues now and then and overall the quality of racing was good. I have over 700+ photo’s to download and sort through, but on holiday tomorrow so it can wait till then....I need my bed very shortly.
I've always had a love of the Beach Boys stuff, the old man would have this one on his record player constantly and is one of my earliest memories of him. I suppose as a direct result, I don't trust a person who after hearing that song doesn't have it going around and around their heads a couple hours later.
Anyway, being listening to more pop music from that era/generation.....as I've said before. Pure Teckle
Sorry but how could you score Braveheart ahead of Monty Phython's Life of Brian?
Braveheart is, and for ever will be, and embarrassment to the Scottish nation. Filmed in Ireland and with 70% of the plot made up, it bears now actual truth to what really happened, but as a direct result Scotland is constantly flooded with daft Americans claiming to have some blood tie to William Wallace and hoping that one day we discover our Freedom....
Sometimes with films dealing with this subject (racism) can be one dimensional, i.e. the racists are evil and have no other dimension to them. However in this film, Steiger plays a police chief who is a prejudiced man but shows growth and sympathy, hence the deserved Oscar. Even Poiter's character shows sign of prejudice towards Endicott when he pursues him without the evidence to prove it.
Considering that this film was made back in 67, it's unique when everyone seems to hail Mississippi Burning as the 'definitive' race movie while this is out there.
Shinty again, starting to understand it a bit better. I can now confirm that more or less anything goes. A bit different from my other set, gone for tighter cropping, also a bit more of a physical game which meant I got more of these contact shots.
I love my new lens...I fear this may get a tad pricey down the line
When all players are putting yes....when its being played onto the green form 150+ yards away that is not the case, not pratical for a start.
In responce to the orginal question. If you tee off and hit another ball and then your ball goes in then it's a hole in one and pints all around in the 19th, the other bal gets replaced as best as possible.
This is what is generally used in league games which is a split leather ball and is softer than a baseball. In Championship matches they go back to traditional methods and use 100% cow hide leather but they tend to fall apart if the weather is poor...and since it's Scotland it rains......all the time.
Shinty is a mad sport. For those unaware of this fine Highland sport..it's like Hockey expect there less rules, even saw them head the ball even when it's in full flight, nuts the lot of them.
I could walk into a park with a a ball and gather random people who want a game, jumpers used for goalposts and we would start to have a kick about. More would join and some would leave but at it's simplest form it is the most powerful form of language.
What is hard to explain is why I follow a team where I latch onto with loyalty and love (yes I said it) For me football is all about Ross County and Scotland for me. I have followed County across Scotland, seen defeats in Alloa in the middle of December in the snow and remember the banter I had on the bus down, at the game with the Alloa fans and stewards. Then I have days when I watch MY local team walk out onto the national pitch in the final, and a tear forms in the corner of my eye because I know that this is what it's all about....banter/love/loyalty and a common goal. As for Scotland I have been in pubs and belted out the national anthem with pride with random strangers...I have cheered and celebrated goals (no really Scotland do score some) and been there in defeat. It's not logic and to anyone who has no interest in the game it's just daft, however what I have wrote there is felt the same over be it in England, Germany, Brazil, South Africa to Australia...
My old man hates sport, hates football until the County cup run. Still hates the game but loves being in the crowd and the atmosphere, loves the idea of comradeship between the fans....and yes while some take it too far (see Glasgow on an old firm day for that) generally I can easily sit down with a fan of the other side and have a beer without the want to beat each other up.
Yeah, pre-season is back. None of that fancy World Cup for me with all it's skill and colour and attrctive football....no sir give me brutal Scotish footy anyday.
Kind of with AMB on this one (and I know it's wrong...I've got the bath running and getting ready with the bleach and metal scouring pad) but personally I would just leave it as it is and just avoid the guy from now on.
There's little point about making post's and getting irate over it, if he's going to continue like that he's going to get found out soon enough, but then I'm a believer of Karma in it's most simplest of forms
Victory for a footballing side over some shocking tackles from the Dutch, the total football side of the 1970's would be ashamed to think of what has become of thier side.
As for the ref, he didn't have a great game but by christ did the players make it difficult for him. If he had sent one of the players off we would all be moaning that he ruined a potentially good final. He was in a no one postion, damned if he did, damned if he didn't.
Holland lucky to be level on players here, could have been down to 9 men. Van Bommel and De Jong should have walked.
Spain trying to play football and have only being stopped by dirty tackles, however they can't keep that going in the second otherwise they will be down to 10/9 men.
